Oklahoma State Owning Big 12 Awards in Baseball Again this Week
IRVING, Texas – For the second consecutive week, Oklahoma State has the Big 12 Player and Big 12 Newcomer of the Week as Chase Adkison and Nolan Schubart were honored for their performances in week 13.
Adkison was named the Big 12 Co-Player of the Week, sharing the with West Virginia’s J.J. Wetherholt, while Schubart earned Big 12 Newcomer of the Week accolades for the second-straight week and third time this season.
The duo led OSU to a series win over Kansas State to solidify second place in the Big 12 standings for the Cowboys.
Adkison was the Pokes’ leading hitter on the weekend, going 7-for-11 (.636) with a home run, a triple and eight RBIs. OSU’s catcher had multiple hits in all three contests to extend his hitting streak to five games, and he also drove in multiple runs in each outing.
Adkison’s best day at the plate came in the second game as he helped OSU even the series. In that contest, he went 3-for-4 with a walk, four RBIs and three runs, and he finished a double shy of hitting for the cycle.
Also outstanding behind the plate, Adkison threw out two runners trying to steal and picked off two other baserunners while allowing just three stolen bases against a K-State team that came into the weekend with over 100 steals on the season.
Schubart continued his outstanding offensive production as the freshman was 7-for-14 on the weekend with two home runs and a double, while leading the Cowboys with nine RBIs. He hit safely in all three games, collecting multiple hits in two of those, to extend his hitting streak to six games.
The OSU left fielder drove in multiple runs in all three games, highlighted by a 4-for-5, four-RBI performance in the series opener in which he tied his career high for hits. In Sunday's finale, he blasted a three-run homer in the first inning to give the Cowboys a lead they never surrendered.
With 14 homers, Schubart leads all Big 12 freshmen in that category, and he now ranks second overall in the league in RBIs.
