Cowboy Baseball Evens Record With Midweek Win
ARLINGTON, Texas – Oklahoma State picked up an 8-4 win over Abilene Christian Wednesday night in its first of four games at the Kubota College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field.
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 2-2, while ACU fell to 3-2.
OSU was led by Aidan Meola, who recorded a career-high four RBIs in a 3-for-5 night at the plate, while Nolan Schubart drove in three runs and had a pair of hits.
The Pokes used six pitchers in the contest, and Aaron Weber picked up his first win in an OSU uniform in relief of starter Brennan Phillips as the right-hander tossed two shutout innings.
OSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in its first at bat as Schubart brought home the first run before a two-out, two-RBI single by Meola extended the advantage.
But the Wildcats would get a run in the home half of the first, then rally for three runs on five hits in the second inning to take the lead.
That lead would not last long, however, as Meola came up clutch again with two outs, this time ripping an RBI double into the gap in left-center field to tie the score at 4-4 in the third.
The Cowboys regained the lead in the fourth. Lane Forsythe drew a one-out walk before stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error. That set the table for Zach Ehrhard, who brought home the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.
OSU added key insurance runs in the seventh, rallying to plate three. A bases loaded double by Schubart brought home a pair, and Meola followed with an RBI single to make the score 8-4.
Gabe Davis, Ryan Bogusz, Drew Blake and Robert Cranz followed Weber and kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard over the final five frames to seal the win.
The Cowboys return to action Friday when they continue play in the Kubota College Baseball Series against Michigan at 3 p.m. OSU will also face No. 2 Arkansas on Saturday before closing out the weekend with No. 4 Oregon State.
