WICHITA, Kan. – Oklahoma State's offense erupted Monday at Eck Stadium as the 17th-ranked Cowboys clinched a two-game sweep of Wichita State with a 14-6 win.

The Cowboys collected 17 hits in the contest, led by Christian Encarnacion-Strand's 3-for-5, three-RBI day that included his first-career home run and a double. Brock Mathis was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, while Max Hewitt came off the bench and went 2-for-2 with home run and a career-high four RBIs.

Trevor Martin recorded the win in his first-career appearance as the freshman right-hander came out of the bullpen and tossed three shutout innings while striking out four.

WSU took the game's initial lead in the second. Couper Cornblum was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and two batters later, a triple by Ross Cadena put the home team up 1-0. OSU starter Bryce Osmond would escape further damage in the frame by getting a strikeout and a ground ball resulting in a fielder's choice.

The Shockers doubled their lead in the third, with a two-out RBI single by Cornblum making the score 2-0.

But OSU answered in the next inning, batting around and rallying for five runs to take the lead. Encarnacion-Strand led off the fourth with a double into the left-center field gap, and Mathis followed with his first RBI of the season on a double that hit off the top of the wall in left field and made the score 2-1.

Up next, Hueston Morrill tied the game with a single through the left side before Dom Johnson singled and Matt Golda walked to load the bases with no outs. After a strikeout, Nolan McLean collected his first-career RBI by drawing a walk to put OSU up 3-2.

OSU's eight batter of the inning would pad the Pokes' lead as Jake Thompson ripped a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle to give the visitors a 5-2 advantage.

The Cowboys continued to come up clutch at the plate in the fifth. This time it was Caeden Trenkle who delivered a two-out, two-RBI hit, a double to left-center field that pushed the OSU lead to 7-2.

WSU mounted a rally of its own in the fifth against Roman Phansalkar, who opened the inning in relief of Osmond. The Shockers tallied three runs on four hits and a walk against the OSU reliever to make the score 7-5 and bring Martin out of the bullpen for his collegiate debut.

An RBI groundout pulled WSU to within one at 7-6 before Martin got out of the inning without further damage with a strikeout and fielder's choice.

OSU regained control of the scoreboard over the next three innings, scoring seven runs over those frames with its timely hitting.

In the sixth, Hewitt pinch hit with the bases loaded and two outs and delivered an opposite-field single to bring home two runs and make the score 9-6.

The Cowboys used the long ball in each of the next two innings to secure the win. In the seventh, Encarnacion-Strand crushed a three-run homer to center field, and in the eighth it was Hewitt's turn, as he smacked a no-doubter over the wall in right field to extend the OSU lead to eight.

The Cowboys return to action for their home opener at O'Brate Stadium Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Little Rock.
