ARLINGTON, Texas – In the longest game in Globe Life Field history, Oklahoma State emerged a winner over No. 2 Arkansas, topping the Razorbacks, 2-1, in 14 innings Saturday night in the Kubota College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field.
Lane Forsythe's suicide squeeze bunt plated Donovan LaSalle with the winning run as the Cowboys extended their winning streak to four and improved to 4-2 on the season.
Tommy Molsky collected the win on the mound, his first as a Cowboy, as he worked two shutout innings, striking out three and allowing just two hits.
Molsky's effort followed strong outings by starter Brian Holiday, who allowed just one run and struck out six in six innings, and Gabe Davis, who tossed 5 2/3 scoreless frames with five strikeouts.
LaSalle had two of the Cowboys' six hits in the contest, with the pair of singles marking the first two hits of the freshman's career.
After four scoreless frames, Arkansas (4-2) took the lead in the fifth on its first hits of the contest. Jared Sprague-Lott led off the inning with a double to left-center field and following a sacrifice bunt, Kendal Diggs collected an RBI single to put the Hogs up 1-0.
Arkansas clung to the one-run lead until the Cowboys produced some ninth-inning heroics.
With OSU down to its final three outs, Tyler Wulfert drew a leadoff walk before a strikeout and another walk put two runners on. That brought Aidan Meola to the plate, and the junior came up clutch, delivering a game-tying double on a 1-2 pitch as he sent a shot to right-center field to score pinch runner Jaxson Crull.
The Pokes threatened to plate the winning run in the ninth, loaded the bases with one out when LaSalle was hit by a pitch following Meola's RBI, but a pair of strikeouts ended the threat.
In the decisive 14th, a one-out single by LaSalle got things started before an error by Arkansas third baseman Jared Sprague-Lott put a pair of Cowboys in scoring position.
That brought Forsythe to the plate, and the senior laid down a perfect bunt as LaSalle raced home with the winning run.
OSU concludes play in the Kubota College Baseball Series against No. 4 Oregon State Sunday at 5 p.m.
