Early Projections: Cowboys Listed As Early Host and National Seed
STILLWATER – We’re still more than a month out from the Big 12 tournament, let alone the start of the NCAA tournament, but the Cowboys are trending in the right direction. On Wednesday, Baseball America released its early projections for the tournament and the Cowboys were listed as the No. 11 overall national seed, which means hosting a third-straight Stillwater Regional at O’Brate Stadium.
The other three teams BA is projecting in Stillwater are Nebraska, San Diego and Niagara, all three of which would have automatic bids.
This projection is much better than the one D1 Baseball put out recently, which also shows the Pokes as a national seed, this time at No. 13, and hosting Creighton, Grand Canyon and Dallas Baptist. Not sure what it is, but the Cowboys just can’t seem to get past the Patriots.
Baseball America shows OU as the No. 13 seed and hosting Dallas Baptist in Norman.
I really like the line in the BA article that states “At this time of year, the emphasis is still on “projected.” This is not meant to be how the tournament would be seeded if it started tomorrow.” That’s probably the most important thing to keep in mind this time of year as a lot could happen in the next month as the Cowboys still have five Big 12 series left, including Texas and Texas Tech, with the Longhorns being projected as a No. 3 seed in Fayetteville and the Red Raiders a No. 2 seed in Lexington, KY.
