STILLWATER – Major news has come to the West End Zone Monday afternoon as Oklahoma’s top recruit in the 2021 class and top 50 national recruit, Kendal Daniels has committed to Oklahoma State.

It was just four days ago on Thursday when it was reported that the Beggs, Oklahoma, safety requested and was granted his release from Texas A&M, where he signed during the early signing period in December.

Daniels is a unanimous 4-star recruit and earned All-American status from the All-American Bowl as well as being ranked as the No. 4 safety in the nation.

Daniels was released from Texas A&M after expressing concerns to the coaching staff about a defensive analyst being hired away by Miami. This defensive analyst, Ishmael Arstide, was Daniels’ primary recruiter and was the reason Daniels originally chose A&M. Daniels and his mother both had conversations with Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher. After what he and his family heard from Fisher, they decided they did not want to attend Texas A&M, which is when he requested for his release, which was officially granted.

Deciding on Oklahoma State only four days after getting his release, it is obvious that the Cowboys were his first choice and wanted to make his decision quickly. His high school football coach, David Tenison, told Pokes Report that he has received phone calls from “10 division one schools” over the past few days regarding Kendal but there was never really any discussion, it was Cowboys the whole way.

The 6-4, 198-pound safety out of Beggs recorded 120 tackles, seven sacks and four interceptions during his senior season. He also hauled in 38 passes for 648 yards and 10 touchdowns on the offensive side. Those numbers led to him earning 2A-7 MVP honors among plenty others.

Daniels is now the highest rated recruit in the 2021 class for Mike Gundy and Todd Bradford. His commitment has moved the Cowboys up nine spots in the national recruiting rankings for the 2021 class, carrying over the momentum the Cowboys have had early in the 2022 class the past few weeks.

The addition of Daniels marks the 7th defensive back in the 2021 haul for the Cowboys, showing the importance they have put on the position.
