Oklahoma State Lands Commitment From St. John's Transfer Pitcher

STILLWATER – Josh Holliday has added a pitcher out of the transfer portal. St. John’s Mario Pesca took to Instagram to announce he’s headed to Stillwater and Oklahoma State.

Pesca should have two years of eligibility remaining.

Pesca, originally out of The Bronx, stands at 6-8, 225 pounds, and is coming off a stellar sophomore season for the Red Storm. In 2024, Pesca recorded a 2.96 ERA in 15 appearances, all 15 of which were starts, in 76 innings pitched. He posted 53 strikeouts to 38 walks, giving up just six home runs all season.

These numbers earned him All-Big East First Team honors.

Those numbers were up considerably from his rookie season as he recorded a 7.86 ERA in 14 appearances, seven of which were starts, in 34.1 innings pitched. He posted 23 strikeouts to 16 walks.

What put Pesca on the Pokes’ radar is he played for the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod League for former Oklahoma State coach, Tom Holliday.

This is a really great pick up for Holliday and Co. as the Pokes could potentially lose the talented group of pitchers, Carson Benge, Janzen Keisel, Ryan Ure and Brian Holiday, or a combination of, to the 2024 MLB Draft this summer as they just went through the MLB Draft Combine this week.
