Oklahoma State Signee Kash Mayfield Drafted 25th Overall By San Diego Padres '24 MLB Draft

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is losing one of its top signees to the MLB Draft. Kash Mayfield, a LHP out of Elk City, OK, was selected by the San Diego Padres 25th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft.

He joins Oklahoma State redshirt sophomore two-way player, Carson Benge, in the draft, who was selected No. 19 overall by the New York Mets.

Projected as the No. 30 overall prospect in the draft, Mayfield has a very high upside as he was one of the top high school pitchers in the class. This past season as a senior, Mayfield threw 44 innings with an impressive 115 strikeouts, giving up just four hits, one run, all with just eight walks. Those numbers also include a solid effort from the plate as he recorded a .476 batting average and a 1.593 OPS. 

From the mound, Mayfield routinely hit the mid to upper 90s with his fastball and has a solid change up and curveball.

It’s easy to see what the Padres’ front office saw in Mayfield, which makes it that much more difficult to not see him in orange and black in Stillwater next season as a freshman.
