Justin Campbell Double Dips on Big 12 Baseball Honors
The Big 12 Conference announced their weekly award winners on Monday in baseball and Oklahoma State second-year freshman pitcher and designated hitter Justin Campbell was named Pitcher of the Week in the conference and he shared the Newcomer of the Week with Kansas pitcher Cole Hansen.
Campbell had a career night at Oral Roberts last Tuesday, racking up a career-high 14 strikeouts in seven shutout innings and issuing just one walk. The 14 strikeouts were just two shy of the OSU single-game record. Campbell's performance helped OSU snap a nine-game losing streak to ORU at J.L. Johnson Stadium, a streak that dated back to 1995.
Campbell had 12 strike outs in six innings the previous week pitching and earning a win at Missouri State.
Campbell also served as a designated hitter over the weekend in the series against Vanderbilt. He went one-for-five at the plate playing in the two games on Saturday against Vandy aces Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter.
Campbell is expected to get the start for the Cowboys on Tuesday night when they go against Louisiana-Monroe at the home of the Texas Rangers Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
