Baseball News: Cowboy Alum Wrobleski to All-Star Game, Conover to San Diego in MLB Draft

STILLWATER – The MLB Amateur Draft was started on Saturday in Philadelphia, the site of the upcoming MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night. One Cowboy heard his name called in the draft on Saturday night and another former Oklahoma State standout found out he’ll be in Philadelphia pitching for the National League on Tuesday.
Wrobleski was selected to fill a roster spot after the Dodgers openly campaigned that he had been snubbed. He becomes the fifth Dodger on the NL roster.
On Saturday morning Wrobleski learned he had been picked as an All-Star, getting a call from his manager Dave Roberts, also the NL manager for the game.
“Doc called me and I actually missed the first call,” Wrobleski recounted later in the afternoon to media. “Called him back, and he let me know. It was super exciting. Super happy. He just told me he’s proud of me. So I thanked him for working to try and get me there.”
Wrobleski becomes the eighth Cowboy Baseball alumnus to earn MLB All-Star status and the first since Robin Ventura in 2002. Also on OSU's list of All-Stars are Allie P. Reynolds, Mickey Tettleton, Jeromy Burnitz, Mike Henneman, Joel Horlen and Scott Williamson.
In 16 appearances for the Dodgers this season, including 15 starts, Wrobleski is 10-2 with a 2.69 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 100 1/3 innings.
Wrobleski ranks third in the National League in wins and eighth in ERA and is also fourth in WHIP (1.02), and ninth in batting average against (.217).
Wrobleski pitched at OSU in 2021, where he made eight starts and went 3-2 with 50 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings before suffering a season-ending injury. He was an 11th-round draft pick of the Dodgers, made his MLB debut in 2024 and helped Los Angeles win a World Series title in 2025.
Oklahoma State's Alex Conover closed out the first day of the draft when San Diego chose the outfielder with the 134th overall selection in Competitive Balance Round C. Conover was a First Team All-Big 12 performer for the Cowboys in 2026 and ranked inside the top 10 of the Conference in hits for the season with 80.
The junior from Tuttle, Okla, played in 58 games, started 56, and hit .357 to lead the team. He had 14 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs and 37 RBI. He also walked 44 times. His on base percentage was also a team leading .476.
The MLB Draft will continue tomorrow with other Cowboys expected to be selected including slugger Kollin Ritchie.
