Cowboy Baseball Drops Series Finale
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State came up short in its final Big 12 Conference game of the season Sunday as the 21st-ranked Cowboys fell to Baylor, 9-3, at O'Brate Stadium.
With the loss, the Cowboys are now 30-16-1 overall and finish their conference slate with a 12-12 mark.
Offensively, OSU matched the Bears (30-16, 10-11) with 11 hits as Jake Thompson, Carson McCusker and Marcus Brown each had two. Alix Garcia drove in two of the Pokes' three runs.
Bryce Osmond took the loss on the mound to fall to 2-5 as he lasted just two innings and gave up four runs on four hits. The right-hander walked four and struck out five.
BU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in its first two at bats, plating three runs in the first inning by taking advantage of three walks and a pair of hits and adding a run in the second on an RBI single by Andy Thomas.
The Cowboys rallied to trim their deficit to one in the bottom of the second. After back-to-back singles by Thompson and McCusker, an RBI double off the bat of Cade Cabbiness plated the first run, and Garcia brought home two runs with a single up the middle.
Down 4-3 with a runner on and no outs, OSU failed to score again in the inning after a strikeout and an inning-ending double play.
The Bears increased their lead in the middle innings, striking for a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth to take an 8-3 advantage.
OSU used nine pitchers in the contest, with that group combining to issue 11 walks.
The Cowboys conclude the regular season with a three-game series against New Orleans beginning Thursday, with the opener marking the official dedication of O'Brate Stadium. Thursday's first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
