Dave Wannstadt, Former OSU Asst. and College /NFL Head Coach Details OSU in Realignment
STILLWATER – Even more from today and the ever growing news or rumors on college conference realignment. Yes, the Alliance was announced today by the ACC, Big Ten, and Pac-12, but this morning in Big Ten country on Score 670 Radio and the Mully and Haugh Show, former college and NFL assistant and head coach and now a college analyst for FOX Sports, Dave Wannstadt came through with scoop from the FOX Sports college football meetings.
“I was told, I was at the Fox meetings in Phoenix a week ago and we were talking, and a lot of the Big Ten people were all there,” Wannstedt said on the radio. “And it sounds like the Big 12 … the Big 12, we know Oklahoma and Texas are gone. And for any of our listeners, it sounds like Oklahoma State and Kansas State are going to the Pac-12. So that’s done. It sounds like West Virginia is going to end up in the ACC, which would make sense with Virginia, Pitt, everybody there. And it sounds like Iowa State and Kansas are going to join – they’re the two schools that are probably going to join the Big Ten here locally.”
That leaves some Big 12 schools out, namely the three in Texas with Texas Tech, TCU, and Baylor.
“There will be a few schools – the Texas Techs and TCUs – right now, no one knows what they’re going to do,” Wannstadt added. “But unfortunately … the Big 12 is talking, ‘Oh, we’re all together on this.’ But they’re not. When that thing happened with Texas and Oklahoma, everybody’s pretty much on their own. And I think this news today just verifies it and makes it real clear now that there’s no Big 12 being mentioned anywhere.”
Wannstadt, who was once an Oklahoma State defensive line coach working on Jimmy Johnson’s staff in Stillwater, is a guy that knows what he is talking about. Now, coaches love scoop and they love to spread scoop. I would really love to know who Wannstadt was listening too and where the information was derived from.
You can listen to that portion of the radio show here. Do I believe all of that. Honestly, I really don’t. I believe the person telling Wannstadt all of that believes it.
My sources tell me that there is division in the Pac-12. New commissioner George Kliavkoff wants to bring in a few schools that will ramp up the intensity on football and kick football in the rear in the Pac-12. Our sources say Kliavkoff fe.els Oklahoma State can help do that. I also hear a few of the schools in the league, schools that carry weight aren’t as interested in Oklahoma State coming in. There is talk of not wanting to travel that far, but these schools wouldn’t have to, not very often. There is some other talk as well. My sources say it is more about not inviting in a program that might not only ramp up football, but might embarrass the native schools some.
That’s a shame. The Pac-12 could be a good football conference with a few schools jumping in where football is really important to show the way.
